Plumper Bike from Fat Bike Alaska

I love Surly Pugsley bikes and the people at Fatbike Alaska use them as they were intended to be used. Epic fun type rides. I think the one above is a custom Titanium Moots frame. Click the pic or here for more Fatbike goodness. I really want a Pugsley.

Maya is no bird brain! (yet)

It was previously thought that only chimpanzees, dolphins and elephants had the ability to recognize them self in a mirror. Helmut Prior of the Institute of Psychology at Goethe University in Frankfurt found that Magpies can also recognize themselves in a mirror. The simple test for this is to sneak a sticker on the animal and put them in front of a mirror. If they have self awareness and they look in a mirror they will immediately see the sticker turn to them self and try to take the sticker off. In contrast animals that lack self awareness look in the mirror and immediately try to tell that other animal in the mirror that they have the sticker on with one of those motions you make when you try to tell someone they have food on their face or their zipper is down. Maya looked at herself in the mirror with her sticker on and mostly just drooled. Apparently you have to be closer to 18 months old to recognize yourself if human.

Simple fun Idea

I love this idea. It is from the "Playful Spaces" art project by Bruno Taylor. It would be a fun activity for bored bus riders, cheap for a city to do and would help keep people from making bus stop benches their beds.

Look what Ruth did

I bet Ruth had no idea what she was creating when she made Vicky some years ago.

Art at grandma Rue Rue's house

Susan's grandma Ruth is a great artist and has a house full of great art from other artists. One of my favorites in her house are her Claude Howells. I think of these paintings while away from her home and look forward to seeing them almost as old friends when I visit.

Trip to the aquarium

The heat and humidity during our NC trip was so oppressive we could not go outside to play anywhere but the beach during our stay. Ella got very board and tried to change her environment in many ways. Unfortunately it was often naughty in nature. To relieve this dynamic I took Ella about 40 minutes away to a very cool aquarium. Ella loved to touch the horse shoe crabs. I would touch the shell but Ella was the only one willing to touch its belly and legs. As you can see by the pic Ella got into the crab's literally. I can't say I support her attack of this tree frog.

Yea I can crawl

We just got back from our trip to Wilmington NC to see Susan's 92? year old grandma and other kin folk. Maya left on the trip being able to crawl maybe 4 inches and was doing it totally unintentionally to now one week later being able to crawl like a crack high zombie mindlessly going after everything new she sees. Who knew Maya would want to crawl all the way across the floor with such purpose to suck on things like grandmas sandals.
