New Drivetrain

The problem: I need lower gears.  By lower gears I mean about a 1to1 ratio.  Gears to pull a bob up a long steep gravel back road.
Solution: Hollywood cycles.  Jay talked me off the ledge of a very expensive Sram X9 Crank and hooked me up with a great Sram X7 (s1400) 2x10 mountain bike crank/BB and X7 front derailleur for about the same price as the internet plus he fixed a loose rear hub and put on a new dura ace chain and ultegra cassette.  As usual it is all working perfectly and all labor done for $20.   Such cheap labor and not a hint of problem with me bringing in the other parts for him to put on.  I now have a 42/28 in front and an 12?/27 in the back.

Some shops are charging twenty bucks to put a new tube in. Wow.

What did you have before?

So are you using your Bob for the Luce trip?

John, this bike like most cyclocross bikes had a pretty tight cluster of big gears for racing. It was the only thing really getting in the way of it being a do it all road bike. It came with a TruVativ Elita 2.1, Polished 39/48 front and 105 12/25 rear. Full specs here http://salsacycles.com/files/pages/LaCruz.pdf
Sean, I am going with the Bob/La Cruz this year. I don't want to mess with my oddly complicated rack set up on the pugs but you are welcome to the pannier bags or the pug as a whole.

I appreciate the offers, but I don't have a bike with rack eyelets and I can't imagine riding a bike that is too small for me over that kind of distance.

Those chainrings should really make a big difference eh? - definitely.

I call BS on the labor charge (universal implication) though - that's not the Joe Blow rate, that's the Cash Cow rate.

Yea John its too bad you can't get that kind of service and price. If you are ever in need of low end sram parts let me know and I will get you the cash cow special service price.
